Vibrational materials

01/05/2007 8:46 PM

Hello,

I am in the need of some assistance.

I need a material that propagates vibration.

This material needs to be incorporated into clothing to fit the human body.

Can anyone recommend something?

If there is a more specific area to post this question to please let me know.

Thank you.

Try putting an Ant or a small bug incorporated into the human clothing and you bet it will propogate vibration for sure.

Please define a purpose?

Are you starting an anti-terrorist prior alarm system that the human being goes to the airport and starts vibrating upon seeing the first security guard? and Bam... he is caught.

It is to help people relax.

I have motors that vibrate and need to incorporate it into material. If I can find fibers or filaments that propogate vibration I will need less motors.

I hope you can be of some help.

I can't help you too much but your going to want to identify materials that will amplify vibration (some polymers will amplify while others dampen.) I'd suggest getting your hands on some products currently on the market. Sonic toothbrushes I'd imagine should contain elements that amplify (Just a guess, I could be wrong).

You're going to want to be able to quantify which options work better than others. If you find something that works, please tell me! I've been searching for an inexpensive measurement device (accelerometer maybe?) that the average person can operate.

A visco material may be used in such applications. EAR Specialty Composites makes a material called confor. Try their website at www.earsc.com

Others make visco as well. Not sure how the others might measure up. Good luck!

cotton fibre and viscose damp vibrations. what i suggest is a polymer material such as thick nylon as used in abdomen belt vibraters.
