This is our first time to handle the welding of SA 203 Gr E for very low temperature of low alloy carbon steel material. Just to ask for the specific precautions of new WPQT and production welding by then.
I am not familiar with this particular grade of SA 203. If it were me I would first get out the ASME sec.II and/or sec. IV and see what the composition of this grade is and if any special welding requirements are called for. Your question is somewhat confusing to me, do you already have an appropriate PQR/WPS(Welding Procedure Specification) and asking if it is necessary to re-qualify your welders because of the grade change? If this is the case normally I would Guess that a grade change on carbon steel would not require new welder qualifications but a WPS/PQR revision or re qualification on this grade may be required. There again this is only a GUESS because I have not checked the ASME sec.II and/or sec. IV for composition or welding parameters for this metal. If/when you check the ASME sec. II be sure to check the notes. many time these notes list the little changes in pre heat, post heat and other requirements pertaining to different grades of metals are located and many times these notes are "essential variables" to the process and are easily missed.
If you could clarify the last sentence it would help and I will look up this grade in my books and investigate what you are asking. I think it is easier for most people that try to answer any type question correctly (and not waste time on providing a crappy answer) when we don't have to guess what a WPQT or some other abbreviation stands for. Also if you do have a WPS, PQR and WPQ for the welders it would be beneficial to know what grade of SA-203 was used on the originals.
I know that WR means Welder Qualification Record and WPS means Welding Procedure Specification. I assume you mixed the two abbreviations together and added the "T" to stand for Test? The last four words "production welding by then" just flies right over my head and I have no idea what this means.
