Mounting Styles for Temperature Transmitters

11/02/2009 9:04 AM

i am confused in selecting between head mounted and remote mounted transmitter
when i referred to catalogs and consulted vendors everyone saying to select based on ambient temperatures for temperature transmitters if less than 85 deg C to go for head mounted other wise to choose remote mounted

i am having a query like do mounting of transmitter's doesn't depend upon process temperatures? because my temp transmitters are mounted on steam drums and pipelines for which temperatures are going 300 to 1200 deg C.

Please suggest me even with respect to pressure and flow transmitters
please reply to my query as soon as possible.

Thanks in advance
With regards,
Gopi.

Remote-mount looks like a good idea for 300degC process fluids.

But 1200degC? Phew! What on earth is that hot that needs contact temperature-monitoring? Would infra-red non-contact monitoring be a better bet?

Dear Gopi,

Not only Process Temp but ACCESSIBILITY also need to be considered while selecting the Temp. Transmitters. As you have mentioned, your transmitters are for Boilers & Pipe Lines with 1200 Deg C, it will be good idea to go for Remote Mounted Transmitters.

i am considering accesibility but confused in deciding based on process temperatures.. vendors are assuring me not to consider process temperture in deciding mounting but i am not convinced.

for mounting you must consider ambient temperature not process.

for your application T type thermocouple is suitable or if temperature can go up to 1200/1300 degcent then go for infrared optical pyrometer.

You mount your transmitter remote if ambient is heigher than 68 deg cent . recomended

Agree with Mr Sudip.

The Ambient is considered and not the process.

if ambient exceeds 60 dc please use a remote mount, It will improve the reliability of your instruments.
