Digital Micromirror Device: 3D holographic display

06/21/2005 12:21 PM

From Technovelgy: "Dr. Harold Garner and his research team have used a gel-filled tank and a Texas Instruments Digital Light Processing (DLP) Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) to generate dynamic three-dimensional views from holograms."

They hope that it can be used for military mapping applications and for medical imaging.

For more information and photos.

Multi-Purpose Tool

Is the term "military mapping" a euphemism for "war games"? This could be a great training tool for pilots.

They are talking about using it as a 3d map for fighter jets. The other military application is for 3d rendering of a battlefield with the deployed units and known military combatants.
