Active Voltage Conditioners

11/04/2009 10:26 PM

Ok guys I need rapid responses to this one

We are about to pre-order a 650 kVA ABB Active voltage conditioner.

Does anyone have any experience of same and would like to share said woes? Preferably woes of course, because warm and fuzzy feelings are not what us engineers can charge fees for.

I've been tasked with checking the spec and coming up with some unforseen ideas. I have a few but maybe someone else has more????

By the by its for an IBM P575 super computer. Well what else?

Hi BG,

The first question I would ask is, what is the fluctuation profile of the incoming power at that particular location and does said product cover it? I would think that this ABB product would have those kind of specs. (I didn't delve into the link you provided as I'm about to turn in).

The scientist-geeks may just have to wait!

I have never had any problems with ABB products in the past or the information they provided me. But if I suspected a problem, they have Reference Case Studies. I would contact them and grill them as much as I could.

ABB service is about as bad as GE. Do your homework and be careful.
