SEER Compressor Technology

01/08/2007 12:44 PM

Why should you care about SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficient Ratio)? It's the most accurate formula for determining how efficiently an HVAC system is working. Any mechanical operations engineer should always have SEER in mind especially when performing comprehensive system upgrades. Factors affecting SEER include altitude, prevailing winds, temperature extremes, humidity and even energy costs.

My father works for an energy management company, and deals with this stuff. He writes the programs for the heating and air conditioning equipment to follow. It's a load more complicated than you think it is. He's working for First Solar, which is a huge solar cell plant in NW Ohio. That's one if their big customers right now, and he does all the program management to make the plant's HVAC run as efficient at possible. There's big bucks in making saving energy now...
