muffler

can muffler or silencer be design as considering it heat exchanger, or if major consideration is attenuation of sound then how to design it?

The primary purpose of the car muffler (also called "silencer") seems to be to make as much noise as possible to trick people into believing the attached car is more powerful and/or moving faster than it actually is. Mass local populace irritation is an additional side effect.

Make sure the final gas temperature is above the dewpoint temperature of sulphuric acid, or it won't last very long.
