How to Test the Suitability of Inks

11/12/2009 8:29 AM

hello, our supplier of printed materials is about to change their ink supplier. We would like to test/document this to see what the implications are (we are in the pharmaceutical industry -that is why we have to test everything!!). We have asked for the specification and particularly the light fastness rating. Is there something else we should be looking at? How would we go about testing this change?

Doing your own testing is always the final step in making sure that you get what you need. The ASTM series will guide you well.

But, before you get that far, talk to both your supplier and the INK folks. Do they make any claims to be FDA compliant or at least familiar with those requirements? Follow that path first.

Don't your own label specs call out some specification(s) that must be met ?
