Schedule For Greasing Of Motors Bearing

11/14/2009 10:05 PM

Dear Friends;

We installed a second hand corrugator machine which has many large and small motors with grease points. We don't have any instruction manual with information that after how much period we should grease the motors bearings. Can anyone give me assistance?

In the absence of specific instructions otherwise, a common criterion for greasing motor bearings is twice per year. If the environment is extra warm or wet, this should be done more frequently. In any event, follow the equipment manufacturer's recommendations.

Yes, you need to follow manufacturers recommendation for your particular motor, plus see here:

In the absence of any OEM information use the bearing type and size, do very rough estimates of the loading on the bearings and then calculate the intervals and the refill quantity as per the bearing manufacturer's recommendations.

Adjust these frequencies according to experience.

General rules - do not over-grease, a little grease often is better than a lot of grease less often. Use good quality grease. Cheap grease costs a lot.

Try this site for the calculations - other bearing manufacturers have similar sites

From experience,u can lubricate yr motors once in every 2wks of continuous operation,to avoid friction that might heat up yr motor shaft,windings and also draw more current.

You can make a chart or schedule of weekly maintenance or lubrication of yr motors,but do not over grease as this may heat up the motors.Also check or take readings of yr motor current while in operation.This would also help u to determine when to lubricate or not.Large and small motors which i hv handled for some years hv performed so well.

If you find a manual for bearing lubrication or from any bearing manufacturer like SKF,pls do not hesitate to apply it.
