I am working on offshore industry, recently i have a request from client(petrobras) for our newbuilding, it require a ANSi code 48 loss of phase protection for generator. As i understand, the ansi code 48 is a lock of rotor starting time supervision for motors. most of the protection relays are provided this function just for motor. don't know what is the really means for client requirement' loss of phase protection ansi(48)' for generator and how to achieve it. Anybody can help? thanks in advance.

it said IEEE protective device list code 48

incomplete sequence relay

its a device which returns the equipment to the normal, or off, position and lock it out

if the normal starting, operating or stopping sequence is not properly completed

within predetermined time

This is table for generator protection, in my work place to detect loss of phase we use voltage negative sequence (47)

ANSI code for Loss of phase protection is 46. Mention of 48 may be a typographical error.

Loss of phase protection is also known as Negative phase sequence protection and is an important one for a Generator (for any rotating machine for that matter)
