Measuring Gravity in the Nanoscale

06/22/2005 11:58 AM

The four fundamental forces, from strongest to weakest are Strong, Electromagnetic, Weak, and Gravitational. Gravitation, being relatively weak as compared to the other three, is difficult to observe in small scales. Some scientists from Purdue University have come up with a way to measure gravity in the nanoscale. They found that gravity behaves as it is expected to, with no noticeable deviation from newtonian gravitation.

Four Forces

Are we talking on the sub-atomic scale here? It's not clear. The gravitational force of a black hole is pretty darn strong.

Subatomic scale would be Angstroms, I think I saw Nanometer scale somewhere in the article, so thats probably about 100 times bigger. Still, traditionally it takes a lot of mass to produce measurable gravity so this is impressive.
