Compressor for Nitrogen Service

11/20/2009 3:12 AM

We want to replace our existing ( twin lobe type ) roots blower with a centrifugal compressor. Application is nitrogen used for heating / cooling during startup / shutdown of ammonia plant. Service conditions are

Suction pressure = 2 to 4 kg/sqcmg

Discharge pressure = 4 to 6kg/sqcmg

Capacity - 40000nm3/hr

What are the options available other than roots blower or screw compressor. Based on our operations / maintenance experience in the past our preference is for an axially split casing type centrifugal compressor.

Will anybody share experience ( especially regarding integral gear type centrifugal machines also )

Cheapest by far is roots blower. Could well be highest maintenance effort.

High speed 2 stage centrifugal will do the job with about 310 mm diameter impellers turning at about 13 500 rpm. Elliot, Sulzer, Nuovo Pignone etc.

That is for one case ie 2 bar suction to 4 bar discharge. Other specs will be different.

I'M SORRY WE CAN'T HEAR YOUR QUESTION BECAUSE YOU ARE SHOUTING SO LOUDLY THAT IT'S DEAFENING US OUT. CAN YOU REPEAT YOUR QUESTION IN A SOFTER VOICE SO THAT WE CAN HEAR WHAT YOU'RE ACTUALLY ASKING US INSTEAD OF DEAFENING US?

Okay, so I guess Admin heard the ruckus you're making and made you tone down.
