"Lightning arrestors" or surge protectors are devices that are wired between conductors in a circuit and earth. Their purpose is to detect and suppress an over-voltage condition in the circuit.

Lightning earthing is a grounding system that gives the lightning an easy path to earth. Their purpose is to attract the lightning to a harmless point away from the circuitry so all of the power will "go around" the circuit (hopefully). (A lightning earthing system works in conjunction with an electrical safety grounding system - it does not replace it.)

Lightning Arrestor is a device and the Lightning Protection Earthing is a system. The LA has to be connected to the LP Earthing; otherwise it serves no purpose.
