EcoTraction in Canada?

11/24/2009 8:34 AM

Does anyone have experience using "EcoTraction" as a slip/ fall, de-icer type product. Takes the place of other chemical de-icers and salts! Does not kill vegetation, but appears to have other side effects. Paver's that have never shown signs of efflorescence before are now turning white. From upper stories looking down, it looks as if it has snowed--it's that white? At this point, we are not certain it is truly efflorescence, but it is certainly white!

You might visit the EcoTraction fan page on Facebook. There are quite a few videos there, including a story from the CBC National News.

And while you're on Facebook, I hope you'll become a fan of CR4_News too.

A hardware store owner I met also used himself and sold lots to customers for icy sidewalks last year. It worked well. He was intrigued by it simply because it is benign and won't harm pets.

I have used it for another purpose on the recommendation of my local hardware store. It is good as a desiccant. I put a few cups worth spread out on a flat container inside a parked car to help remove moisture build up during cold months. It works. And the material can be regenerated by reheating it in an oven - of course only use clean product (not dirty or oily). then it can be reused again.

While I appreciate the responses to my question, I offer the following remarks: #1 the Facebook link Never loaded [Not that I was disappointed?, since I've never seen anything on Facebook that really impressed me!] #2 I've had store proprietors offer recommendations up with no sound reasoning behind them before!

Fact remains, I have paver's over several hundred sq.ft. that are turning white [all of a sudden] and the only common link is this product. Just trying to see if anyone else has experienced the same thing.

Discoloration of a Red paving stone surface, to white, only after having used EcoTraction is a real problem! I want to determine if there is a chemical compound in EcoTraction that could be causing this. Not particularly interested in what Freddy from Facebook or Harry from hardware has to say.

I like the idea that we are not using salt, as before, but turning everything white Doesn't Work!
