what is the difference between ground and neutral in power supply?

Change the name of the "ground" to "equal potential wire/point" and "neutral" to "return conductor" and you should get your answer.

Neutral is the return conductor which is connected to star point at transformer side and when it is connected to pit called ground. The earth is giving us protection against electrical leakage and ensure the safe working environment.
