Nickel Teflon Plating

11/25/2009 2:05 PM

Needed: Nickel Teflon plating. Do any job shops offer this service for SST substrates?

Does anyone know if there is standard for this - ASTM, MIL?

We need the teflon to be co-deposited, not nickel plated then teflon sprayed.

Thank you.

Hi Mike,

I'm the plating/coating engineer for a DOD contractor. Co-depositing Ni/PTFE is done with electroless nickel (EN) coating. The primary specs for EN are AMS 2404, AMS 2405, MIL-C-26074. I don't know of a spec that relates to Ni/PTFE. EN can be applied to stainless, but the process has to be tweaked properly to get good adhesion. This company says it can put EN/PTFE on stainless. It would certainly be worth a phone call to see if they can handle your specific application.

You don't say where you are, in the UK Poeton will coat nickel/PTFE composites & they list St. Steel as a suitable substrate.
