Best wishes for Thanksgiving

11/25/2009 9:40 PM

May I wish all our American fellow CR4 members, their families and guests all the best for Thanksgiving Day. Hope you have a good Day and enjoy a great Weekend.

Gotta feel for the turkeys though!

Thank you Prof for the holiday well wishes!

I too would like to wish everyone who celebrates the Thanksgiving season a happy, healthy and safe holiday.

Let us also strive to lend a hand to our neighbors in need and remember those who may be in harm's way, not only in this season but throughout the year.

Thank you for the well wishes.

I've spent the past 11 months in Korea so I've missed out on the usual holidays. This one is especially missed as I haven't found turkey, stuffing or pie anywhere around, not to mention missing out on the family time and football games. Wow, I'm starting to depress myself....I had better get back to work. Good thing I only have 5 more months to go.

Dear JBTardis,

Sorry to hear that you cannot find any turkey, stuffing or pumpkin pie anywhere over there in South Korea. That is most unfortunate! Can you somehow make your way over to a US Military facility nearby and explain the situation to someone in charge? There is nothing worse than being a lonely American overseas during the holidays. I know as I've been there myself many a time....

Are in the service or an American under contract to work in S. Korea? Just curious.

Wish we could send to you some of our leftovers, as we have plenty, but I fear it'd spoil in transit. That is something that ought to be checked out.....how to send Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners to Americans overseas in faraway lands without having to worry about it spoiling!

Did I just start something incredibly crazy sounding, or what. just by thinking outside the boxzzz again and ranting away as usual?????? We could also do the same thing like sending meals to the troops worldwide! Flash-freeze using liquid nitrogen and then expedite the shipping process somehow???

CR4 Forum folks: I through-up the challenge to you as engineers and technician's to figure this one out!

We could call it "Operation Viddles", or something like that!!?????

I know we have plenty here after Thanksgiving Dinner, and wish we could somehow share that bounty with the troops worldwide. My wife, as usual, has made enough to feed an Army! Even our 6 Border Collies (my "Grad Students" LOL) got their little "treats" tonight!

CaptMoosie,

Thank you. I am not in the military. I'm here working as a technical adviser to a Korean aerospace company. Unfortunately, I am not anywhere near a US Military base. I've heard from several people how helpful it would be for me to go by one as when I arrived I had some banking issues, then had to see a doctor and of course now I'm missing out on Thanksgiving food. But despite my complaining here, I have made the most of it and have gotten by. The Korean doctor I went to was very nice (as near as I could tell from his limited English) and the only concern I had was hearing him say "oops" under his breath as he was surgically removing a growth on the bridge of my nose. I got the banking problems sorted out too.

I think your challenge to CR4 is a good one. As much as I would appreciate receiving something from my home country at a time like this, I would much rather see the effort go to someone who is truly in need, whether it be the troops in the field or some at a local shelter.

Speaking of Border Collies, they are wonderful creatures. My sister has one (her second) and gets them from my cousin who lives on a farm (dairy farm not border collie farm) in PA and always seems to have a bunch of them. My first visit to her farm was for a family reunion and surprised me. They have an out door covered open air pavilion with tables and a full kitchen. As my cousin started preparing the food, the cats came around.....before you could shoo them away, one of the borders came over and correlated all 9 cats into a corner. I asked my cousin about it and she said many years ago she was cooking outside and the cats were hanging around, jumping on the counter trying to get something to eat. She had to keep pushing them away and running them out away from the kitchen area. The dog saw what she was doing and went to work.......since then it apparently taught its descendants.

Anyway, that's again and I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Enjoy the leftovers...for me making turkey sandwiches with the leftovers is one of the many enjoyable things about Thanksgiving.

Wish we could send to you some of our leftovers,

Leftover?

In India, our culture says, give your guest first and you take leftover. And still people follow this culture.

".....give your guest first and you take leftover"

But what if you don't have a guest for dinner?

Hmmmm.....not a bad idea about making Thanksgiving and Christmas MRE's!!!!

Does anyone know what they put into the MRE's now days? I left the Army in '91 after Desert Storm, so I have no idea what the Entree is in the MRE in today's Army. Anything is better than that dreaded and totally greasy PORK PATTY, aka HOCKEY PUCK!!!! ***LMAO***

Have a great day!!!
