Choosing a Gasket Material for Austenitic Stainless Steel

I have flange made of 316 which hardness is less than 150HBW,how to choose the gastet material to ensure the hardness is 30 HBW less than the hardness of the flange.

I don't know your application but in my industry 304 or 316 stainless flanges would use a soft copper gasket.

Apart from Copper, we also use soft Aluminum as gasket material for MS and SS Flanges. Only thing you should be careful off is to see that, no serrations, notches to be allowed on either side of gasket material surface , other wise it will leak through and you can not hold the pressure during hydro static testing.
