MCC Busbar Size Requirement

Per UL845, would an MCC with a 2000Amp horizontal bus be able to feed four 400hp motors all running at once (@480Volt)? Please spell out any codes referenced from UL845 because I do not have the book.

FYI:

- Running load is 1908A

- MCC bus sizing requirements is not contained in NEC (NEC only deals with regular conductor sizing, mostly insulated conductors)

- UL845 contains busbar sizing, but I do not have the book.

If you are building electrical equipment you need more than just the UL book. What are you going to do about bracing?

Rule of thumb.

1 square inch is good for 1000 amps.

It is nt advisable and may nt feed it conveniently for a period of time.U need to do little calculation on yr current carrying capacity of cables and or bursbar to get a good long time result.

Yr total full load motor current may be say 1804.4Amps,but other loads may raise it up to 1908Amps.Each time u start there is always more current drawn b4 the motors stabilize.The bursbar is equally affected gradually.U nd to add say 25% tolerance(25% of 1908=477).1908+477 gives 2385Amps.Look for the next available standard bursbar rating which could be about 2500Amps or thereabout and install this to conveniently carry yr loads for a reasonable period of time.Use good quality copper bursbars.
