Maximum Grouting Depth

12/01/2009 11:13 AM

Dear friend My problem is how to define maximum depth of grouting under the base plate. In our construction site, depth of grouting is between 3.5 and 10 cm. is it acceptable? can you help me by mentioning a Code? Base plate size = 60*80*3(cm) Axial force = 250 ton Main Moment = 120 TM Shear force = 13 t Anchor size = 32mm

Hi kaveh,

Can you tell me if your grout is filler, or is a structural material such as cement to give strength please?

There is no maximum depth of grouting under a baseplate. It is usual to provide 1.5" (38 mm) of grout but there is no reason why it cannot be greater. If you are using thick grouting, make sure you bevel the edges at 45 degrees. Also, make sure that the grout is at least as strong as the concrete it bears on.
