I would be more kind than saying "spy". I was thinking a do-it-yourselfer. However, I'm sure the formula and process are patented.

PS the part of the plant where the surface treatments are formulated was secure and off-tour, but they will answer some questions.

Robert Seippel authored a good book on Photovoltiaics (also the title) published in 1983 - Reston Publishing.

You can get your answer in that book.

It is a little old now- perhaps you can find some other text closer to present time.
