Mechanical Calculators

what are the basic requirements of mechanical calculator that is potable and can be used for basic operations

I don't think there are any requirements for a mechanical calculator.
Except maybe your 10 digits and a pencil and paper.
Any undertaking complex enough to require a calculator would (i'd imagine ) have access to a battery powered one.

If it's a slide rule, aren't you supposed to grease the bearings semiannually?

I have a solar powered slide rule. You never have to replace the batteries!
