MCB is Miniature Circuit Breaker, available with continuous current ratings from as low as 0.5A to as high as 125A, and with breaking capacities of a maximum of 10kA.
Whereas an MCCB is a Moulded Case Circuit Breaker, avaialble with continuous current ratings from as low as 16A to as high as 3200A, and with breaking capacities from 10kA to 75kA.
So, the difference is in their breaking capacities. MCCBs can break a much higher current than an MCB.
If a circuit is rated for 50 A & max. short circuit current is expected to be 7 kA, then which should be selected, leaving aside commercial reasons since MCCB is costlier than MCB. No other accessory is required in the breaker ( e.g. aux. contact or shunt trip coil etc. etc. )
Is the circuit to be protected single phase or three phase? Bear in mind that the fault current can be double on a three phase circuit when tested with a single phase tester.
