Spur Gearbox for Diesel Engine

I begin to design 2 set spur gearbox for desil engine with max power of 11kw I make total reduction in the gearbox to be 17.1 , 4.5 in the ferist set and 3.8 in the other , iwant to know is 4.5 reduction ratio is to high or i can use in this case or i must reduce it further more to eleminate wear on the ferist set.

The ratios are OK and well within tha handling capacity, but check the odd ratios, whether you can have the required gearboxes.

Also it depends a bit on the highspeed shaft RPM.

the high speed shaft is 1800 rpm . I am also facing proplem with the material for spur gear with adquant strength , I started with 2.25 as module and 19 as number of teeth .
