It's been quite sometime since I used a Proface HMI. I think you'll find it very difficult to manufacture you're own cable to download a project from your PC to the HMI. As I think there's some inline converter between the 9 pin 'D' Type connector (RS232C COM port on your PC) and, the circular 8 pin connector to the HMI. You can purchase the cable from Proface (they're not that expensive approx. £50), I think the Part # is GPW-CB02.

As for the software, the old software I used was called GP-PRO/PBIII (again from Proface). I'm not sure whether they're new software (GP-Pro EX), is compatable with your HMI. Can't see why not, as Proface are a good company and tend to keep things backward compatable. All manuals come as .pdf files on the CD. Downloading the project into the new HMI should be an easy job, as long as you've got the cable and software.
