Wesix Heater - Replacement Coils

12/10/2009 2:41 AM

I have a Wesix heater model 15 FTT. It is a 6.4 amp, 230/240 volt 1500 watt heater. The resistance coil has burned out of it for the 2nd time. The first time was in the late '70s early 80's. It has been in use for ~55 years. Does anyone know where I can get another coil or two?

Find a local supplier such as a restaurant equipment repair shop and if they dont have ready made stuff you could buy cromalox wire of the proper gauge etc. and make your own plus some spares. Bring your specs. and a sample with you so they can match it correctly.

Let us know how you made out .

Machine Head, Thanks for the lead. How do I ascertain the gauge of the wire needed for 220 volts. Are you suggesting that I get the proper sized wire and coil it around the proper sized rod so it will feed through the 18 ceramic insulators in the inline element mount?

Thre is a restauant supply nearby that I will check with. I checked with the appliance repair stores locally and one suggested that I use a dryer coil but it was a 1/4" coil and the creamic insulators are about 3/16 and it wouldn't fit.

Any more direction will certainly be appreciated, particularly with the weather here in the Northwest...

Thanks,

Bill

I seriously doubt that replacement coils are available for a 50 year old heater so i would take a sample of your old coils and the specs you listed to a supplier and let them do the math . I think you will probably end up with a roll of the appropriate wire which you will have to coil yourself to fit your insulators.

I suggest you go to a Restaraunt Equipment Repair store and not a appliance repair store as the Rest. Equip. store is experienced in this type of application.

I see no problem with you getting your heater up and running again .

Let me know , i was in the commercial appliance repair biz. and you should be able to get what you need easily.
