What will be the acceptance limit for Piping vibration? Which one international std. will tell about this acceptance limit.

Currently there is no code or standards.

However a non mandatory code is there in ASME - for nuclear piping that can be taken as reference. (If I remember it is ANSi/ASME Operations and maintenance std/ guides part-3

There is a good paper on this

As said, there are no standards. There are also no real good tools to predict the level of vibration at design stage.

You can have the useful "Guidelines for the avoidance of vibration induced fatigue in process pipework" on the Energy Institute website (www.energyinstpubs.org.uk). You have in it thresholds of "concern" or "danger" of vibration, depending on the frequency.

More that looking at the vibration amplitude, you have to know if it creates dynamic stress concentration somewhere, or if it puts something in resonance (that can be a bit far away from the point of percieved vibration).

If you are currently having a vibration concern, don't under estimate it! Statistics in the UK offshore industry show that 20% of hydrocarbons leaks are due to vibration-induced failures of pipework. And if the dominant frequency is in hundreds or thousands of Hertz, then don't wait.

My company can assist you in this (Doosan Babcock in the UK). For the future you could have one of our clever tools for pipework vibration (www.pipevibrationmeter.co.uk): You can use the contact details on that website if you want to contact our team of specialists in the field.
