Plastic Injection Molding Machine Prototype

12/13/2009 2:30 PM

I'm a student in the fourth year electrical power department in the faculty of engineering at cairo university , my graduation project is automation on the plastic injection machines we need to make a prototype of the machine please can any mechanical engineer help me to make this prototype?? or guide me to the places which can make it??

Why don't you go ahead and start with your explanation of the requirements of the machine, if you can. Then, tell us how you would build it.

"we need to make a prototype of the machine"

The least expensive injection molding machine you can buy for your automation project, is called a hot melt glue gun.

Sameh -- I hope you understand that the big challenge for you is designing the control system to maintain melt temperature and pressure. (That's why this is an electrical engineering project.)

To maintain molding conditions you must understand the fundamental physics of the process, properties of the plastic materials, structural load capabilities of the part that produces the pressure in a mold and the heat transfer behavior of the plastic resin melting heaters.

Best you start with a small manual press if you are faced with the need to create your own hardware. The control design problem is fundamentally the same as a with a production auger feed type injection molding machine. The difference is that the manual press naturally runs much slower cycles, doesn't have the structural resonance and vibration problems as the production machine and is going to be much cheaper to build and facilitate. The simple machine will be much easier to monitor with respect to measurements and troubleshooting.

Hello Friend,

We too had done project related plastic machining but not exactly the plastic injection molding mechanism. I would like to suggest you to refer http://www.patrickplastics.com/injection-molding.htm. They have almost every type of prototypes used in various automation on plastic machines. You can go through their site to get the application process and technique.
