Know Your ADCs!

Although the terms "latency" and "settling time" are often used interchangeably among analog digital converter (ADC) users, there are key differences between the two that ADC designers must be keenly aware of. Bonnie Baker, Senior applications engineer at Texas Instruments (TI), reviews various ADC topologies including successive-approximation-register (SAR), delta-sigma, and pipeline converters, and their associated latency and settling times.

While working the HST program, all of the black boxes are pwr switching, as are the discrete circuits used at any time. This included the ADC we used for measuring temp, voltage, current source, etc. While the ADC was pwr switching on, and before it settle out; voltage and ground bounce concerns, we were measuring the results on what one would call the pwr curve and also through older 4 channel MUX's. The things we do for time usage of power. Out Of The Inner Circle

Wow, at first I thought there was a mistake. Not too long ago Bonnie was with Microchip. I guess she got a better offer!
