Solar Substitute

12/22/2009 12:30 PM

I'm designing a Flare gas flow monitoring system that operates via 24V photovoltaic cells and a charge sequencer and I need an artificial light source during development and hopefully follow-on builds. These are BP Solar cells. Any suggestions?

Do you not have access to a window or roof?

You can use artificial light but it won't give you an accurate representation (unless you use a lot of it and take care to simulate sun movement and cloud cover which will cause the generated power to vary by quite a bit). You may be better off simulating the solar panel output using estimated power characteristics and de-rating factors.

Buy a DC low watt light and wire directly to your charge controller/seq. My favorite supplier is at www.backwoodssolar.com (note woods is plural, so two ss together)
