Turbine exhaust stack

12/23/2009 10:45 PM

I need input about the local (Malaysian) or overseas third party / vendor that having capability to analysis the defects on the turbine exhaust stack and find out the root causes. They also should to provide the solution and plan how to repair and modify for short term and long term.

The crack still appearance after certain period of operation in the event repair on the weld joint area has been performed few times. The exhaust material is SS 316L.

It's suspected by high exhaust temperature operating (500 deg. C) that caused thermal stress on welding joint area.

Thanks to somebody that can assist by detailing information on vendor website, email address and contact person.

If the weld joints were properly designed and executed, then the material should have sufficient strength at heat.

Therefore, since it keeps cracking, I would be inclined to think that :

A: Improper joint configuration

B: Insufficient material for applied stress

C: Improper welding filler / technique

Contact the manufacturer or find a good mechanical engineer to evaluate your application.
