Gas Turbine exhaust frame blower

12/25/2009 2:39 PM

GE Gas turbine uses 2 Nos. blower for exhaust frame cooling. Can we put one of the fan off while running at part laod of @ 70% load. this is for energy conservation efforts. GE frame IX gas turbine uses 2 Nos. 75 KW blowers.

Putting on blower off will save 75 KW.

What will be detrimental effect,if any?

1. If possible, ask GE. They should have the best answer.

2. If both blowers blow to the same place, and if the system is equipped with suitably located thermometers, try it and see. If the temperatures go no higher than before, this would probably be okay. But even so, it would be best to check first with GE. You wouldn't want to violate any warranty provisions, for instance.

Sir,

Thanks for your suggestion. I suppose GE won't allow to run frame IX Gas Turbine with single TK blower. I will contect GE/BHEL for my query. If you have any example of a plant where one of the exhuast frame blower is put off (for part laod operation/energy conservation), please let me know.

Warm Regards.

Probably - suck it and see. Keep an eye on the temperature.
