Sorry, dude. If you scan a document, Adobe Acrobat turns it into a graphics file. In other words, you don't really have a copy of the document, you have a picture of the document.

If you've scanned it using the OCR software that's one thing, but a default Acrobat scan turns what it scans into a JPEG file.

You can us Raster- Vector converter. (Vintopo or another from ACAD). Is very hard job. You can save like BMP, JPG and so on after change. On this moment I have not better idea. Best Regards and Hhappy New year. Libor Pírko

If the OP had the brain to describe the situation fully in detail, I am sure that someone here could help him.

He has not described the file type, whats in it exactly enough to be able to help exactly......and then members get up each others nose too......

OP do a proper job and you will get proper help. Like in computer geek talk - GIGO.....

Scanned images can be of any different formats like JPG,GIF, BMP, PDF etc. Unless you know which type is the output then it would be difficult to suggest a solution. One universal approach is to use Adobe Illustrator, import the image into it and then go editing! Save the edited work as either JPEG or .ai format.

Best wishes

If the graphic is a vector graphic, but you can't edit charaters in bitmaps in Illustrator.

Too little information for a definitive answer - but I will try anyway:

1. From the question it appears that you have scanned a text document and now wish to edit it in some sort of word processing application to avoid retyping the document;

2. If this is correct ignore all other answers that deal with image files - unless of course that is what you want to do; i.e., edit a picture;

3. Adobe Professional 7 has no function that will allow you edit any file in the manner you intend. You have to move to 8 0r 9 but as you will see that is not the proper path;

4. To achieve what you intend you need an OCR [Optical Character Recognition] application such as ReadIris Pro;

I don't know how extensive you OCR conversion requirements are but your software and hardware will determine how accurate the OCR conversions are. First the scanned image has to be of sufficient quality to allow the OCR app to effectively develop a text file. So if you are only doing 1 or 2 docs a month a consumer grade scanner will suffice; e.g., the scan function on your HP AIO Printer/Scanner/Copier.

If your needs are greater then you will need a stand alone single page scanner; and if greater then a multipage automatic scanner with sufficient resolution.

Whatever your scanner choice you should junk whatever driver came with your scanner unless it is high end pro hardware but from you question I doubt that you have spent >$1,000 on a scanner. Download VueScan and install - it is shareware and the fee is modest. It has hundreds of drivers for virtually every scanner ever made and provides a better image than the crap software that OEMs provide.

Next you need a capable OCR application. I recommend ReadIRIS Pro. But be aware OCR conversion is NOT a point and click experience. Even with a good grade pro-sumer scanner, VueScan and ReadIris Pro the best conversion rate you can expect is 90% accuracy - assuming that you start with a clean doc with sharp characters well spaced in a simple font. Anything that does not meet those requirements will result in a degradation of the converted file. If you think 90% accuracy is a walk in the park you haven't done much of this.

You are still not finished. Now you have to open the file with a word processor; edit it and save it in the desired file type. From you question it appears that you are in a Windows environment running old software - too bad.

1. scan it as a PDF file and then use Nitro PDF to edit it

http://www.nitropdf.com/index.asp

2. There are several PDF editing software packages available such as Adobe Professional, Foxit PDF and Infix PDF. Depending on the software you choose, you will have different editing abilities in your PDFs. Some editors allow you to fully edit all text in the PDF while some allow you only limited editing capabilities such as limited insertion points and field limits.

Here goes:

scan document

copy or cut and paste into a new email

do not send to anyone,just edit as you see fit

save edited version

print

It's kind of cheating but it usually works. I've done it a few times
