Reducing Display Size for Gaming in Vista

12/26/2009 5:46 PM

Got a situation with the wife and her computer; she received some computer games for Christmas and installed them. The situation is: the game display is bigger than the monitor display. I have tried to use the settings in the game and in Windows to shrink the gaming display, but it is still too large.

She's running Vista with a HD monitor. Initially, only about 2/3 of the gaming window was displayed; the rest ran off of the monitor display. I tinkered with some of the settings, and reduced the size somewhat, but it still only displays about 7/8 of the window. Some of the menu buttons at the bottom are not accessible.

Game claims it's Vista compatible.

I would appreciate some advice.

There are a couple possibilities that come to mind right off. First, suspect the monitor and/or video card. Is this an inexpensive LCD? Do you have the correct driver for your video card?

Next, suspect the font and icon size settings. No, I don't know where they are in VISTA, but they cause problems like this sometimes.

Hi standarded,

Maybe you have already tried it, but in the game's video settings, there may be a checkbox called "run full screen". Check this if it isn't checked already.

If that doesn't work, switching the monitor screen resolution in Vista may help.

I know these things can be such a pain in the a@# Good luck!

Mike

go to the game forums. This problem will have been encountered hundreds of times and if there is a solution, you will find it there.
