What's the Easiest Way to Install Flue Stacks in Thermal Power Plants?

12/29/2009 3:12 AM

I am in the process of coming up with a method statement for installation of pre-fabricated flue stack parts. The challange is that this is a requirement that should accompany bid documents during tendering and no drawings have been supplied. I know the traditional approach of using a crane to install the lower portion and a combination of a crane for support(to prevent drags)with Tirfors/chainpullers for hoisting and positioning for bolting.

But, is there any other simpler way of doing this? The stack will have a height of 70meters when complete.

I would be nervous specifying any assembly technique in a contract unless you are very familiar with both site and the assembly technique. By asking us for other techniques, you clearly are not this familiar. If anything goes wrong in the assembly process, the contractor can cite the contract and wave responsibility for any complications from the technique you've chosen. A better approach might be to state that outside a few identified pre-approved methods (that you are very familiar with), any other approaches must have a simple review process before proceeding.

you cant have a method statement for installation of flue stack other then using a crane,i have installed flue stacks for power plants (Up to 31Mtr Hight and 2.5Mter dia at the base)where the site conditions are impossible to describe)the methods change from site to site.

Easiest way to do it is simply to get someone else to do it.... Get a qualified guy who knows what to do.

Hi Maloba. This problem should have been covered by a personal site visitation before you entered the bidding process. At times the documentation issued is erroneous and you should not depend on what is written.

Our system design depends on a thorough preliminary evaluation to see if what is written includes ALL the information required to make an offer.

I am including one of our heat recovery flue stack installations. This unit returns 4.2 MW from wasted heat going through the flue stack.

Regrds,

Doyle

Hi Doyle,

Thanks big for the information.

A site visit in my case will not really help because this is a new installation and whats happening on the ground is piling and leveling which makes me totally dependant on the supplied documents.

Thanks again your input will help.

Regards,

Maloba.
