Magnetic Flowmeter

01/05/2010 6:33 AM

Hi,

Can any one explain the difference between " Center-Line Method" and " Mean Axial Velocity Method" for adjusting the probe of the insertion type magmeter. Which one is preferred and for what reason?

Axial velocity is defined as a volumetric component while center-line disturbance can only be expressed in terms of velocity. Depending on your medium and line environment; ie, number of unrestricted diameters before and after sampling, and what the information is being used for you can decide which method suits your needs. Can you be more specific about your process?

its actually a process water return line with enough straight run; can you guide about the insertion length typical for both the methods?

Hello,

The difference between the two flowmeters is how they measure fluid velocities and the use that data to obtain the "measured" flow rate.

Center-line method only measures the fluid velocity at the pipeline centerline and uses that sole data stream in the computation of the fluid flow rate.

Mean Axial Velocity method measures the fluid velocity in numerous locations across the entire interior of the pipe, from wall to wall as well as at the C.L., then uses that data to arrive at (compute) the "mean" value of the flow rate in the pipe.

As to which one is best or preferred??? Both have pros and cons, so you should consult with flowmeter manufacturer's before proceeding any further in selection one for your processes.

Have a great sunny day!
