Without the article reference this is a wild guess, but might get you closer to the mark.

It may be "Design for Manufacture and Automated Assembly" or else it's someone's incorrect review of DFMEA that stands fro "Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis"

If the article describes failure modes, severity an dlikelihood, then it's meant to be DFMEA.

If it talk about machine movements, part handling difficulty, orientation degrees of freedom, part placement obstruction and such, then it will relate to Design For Manufacture ... concepts.

As I said at the start, just a guess given the absence of a site or such to visit to verify.

I have never heard of DFMAA, but in my line of work we often use "DFMEA" which stands for "Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis". It is a structured way to analyse the potential failure modes of a system, the potential causes of these failures and develop design controls to prevent them.

If you Google DFMEA you will get many hits as this is a standard failure avoidance method across many industries.

Hope this helps.

DFMA is a part of the six sigma and is as JAE said design for manufacturing and assembly (to be precise it is for manufacturability and assemblability)

It is a concept to make the life of us manufacturing staff just a bit easier without compromising the end result.

There is also a book called DFX

design for X.

The x is defined in the respective sections as

X = manufacture / Assemble/ Service/ Inspection,....
