P-91 material application

01/07/2010 3:08 AM

Hi,

I want to know that

Where are the application of P-91 material in industry (particularly which place)?

which welding process given best quality as well as mechanical properties for nuclear application?

Is it possible to weld P-91 material with metal core arc welding process?

P91 material is used in High pressure/High Temperature environment in power plant applications - specifically for main steam and reheat steam pipe lines and associated connections (called fittings). Usually pipes of P91 are manufactured as seamless pipes. Welding of P91 is very special and the welding filler material critical. Please read more litrature on this subject before even thinking on nuclear applications.

I hope this helps to start with

Thank you for your kindly reply,

But as per my information P-91 material is widely used in high temperature application(above 700 C) means in steam genetator, poewr plant, nuclear reactor (vessel) where creep strength and toughness is very critical parameter. And i know that welding of P-91 material is very critical due to there high temperature toughness and creep strength and also hot cracking due to filler metal but i want to just know that Is it possible to weld with metal core arc welding because based on our experiment we can concluded that 6mm thick P-91 plate can be weld (without filler metal) in single pass with ATIG(Acticvated flux TIG welding) welding but due lesser productivity we will to apply metal core arc welding. So will it advantageable to weld with Metal core Arc Welding without compromising mechanical and quality?

Hoping for your reply.

thank you very much once again.

Nuclear reactor or any other object, base material is SA 335 P91 or SA 387 Gr.91 (9Cr-1Mo-V-Nb aka modified 9Cr-1Mo steel). For better results, follow EPRI documents regarding SA 335 P91 welding.
