From Wiki: "The last person (as of 2006) to stand on the Moon was Eugene Cernan, who as part of the mission Apollo 17 walked on the Moon in December 1972" So I'd guess Dec 17th 1972.

Interesting point, what about the conspiracy theory that man has not landed on the moon at all!

Hi mongoose, You have a very valid point there! I look at it from the point of religion, the bible, the koran etc. tells us a story or stories which we are supposed to believe without predjudice. I am not going to say that man has never walked on the moon, and neither am I going to say that man has walked on the moon, but as with religious scriptures, what and where is the proof? I remember those heady days when the first TV pictures appeared of someone walking on the moon, but my question is this; Why in these days and age when the Russians, French, British, Japanes etc. are on an equal partership with each other, the moon is still so far away? With todays technology I cannot understand why we have not got an international moon base. If it was so easy to get to the moon and return then, 25 years ago, why can we not do it today? I believe that the answer lies in the truth, that nobody went or retuned from the moon! Think about it!

I have Black Helicopters flying over my house too!

No one has gone back to the moon because of cost. The price to build a moon base far exceeds what nations are willing to pay. As soon as you eliminate hunger, and solve other ailments of the poor an down troden, then we can spend monies on such an adventure.

As I recall the way the astronauts moved on the moon was completely unexpected. If one was to look at the scores of science fiction movies of lunar exploration prior to the lunar landing, no one duplicated the gait the astronauts found to be the most efficient. I think to duplicate it, one would have to partially suspend the actor with a cable to reduce his weight, coordinate the boom with the actors motion and then speed up the film. But that would not account for the way dust reacted when kicked up by the astronauts. With todays special effects, it might be easy to duplicate the videos of the astronauts on the moon, but with 1969 technology it would have been nearly impossible.

The fact that such conspiracy theories continue to flourish may very well prove your point!

Come on! No moon landing! What, are you living in a fantasy world? The moon doesn't even exist! It is intuitively obvious that a superior race of giant intelligent beings has employed the use of this holographic image for years. In fact, the sun, stars, whole kit n caboodle are all part of this great illusion! We are all just expendable rats living in a huge artificial laboratory serving as spare parts and subjects of cruel experimentation for the benefit of all Alienkind!

The last man to walk on the moon was Eugene A. Cernan, the mission commander for Apollo 17. He holds this distinction because he reentered the lunar exclusion module after Harrison "Jack" Schmitt. The date of man's last stroll on the lunar surface was December 7, 1972. You can read more about it right here on CR4.

Landed on Moon: 11 December 1972 UT 19:54:57 (02:54:57 p.m. EST)

You're right, stilljester. December 7, 1972 was the date of the launch of Apollo 17. Guess I should read my own original article, huh?

No worries - I'm not sure about the 17th myself; I just took an educated guess as to the date.

I have to laugh at the people that think this was done on some Hollywood stage. Take it from me, the movie special effects back then sucked. The scary thing is that some of the non believers are very intellegent people and it is puzzeling to me. I just tell the non believers to go down to Florida and see a launch in person. It is an awesome sight. Another awesome sight is watching a Blackbird take off. In 1983 I got the pleasure of being at the right place at the right time. When that thing fires up it is hard to imagine how the brakes can keep that thing grounded. It starts out like slow motion, but I have never see another aircraft move as fast down a runway as that thing did. A second later that bad boy was gone. Very impressive.
