From the Lamatek glossary web page: "DOT MVSS-302 - Department of Transportation Motor Vehicles Safety Standard in which the test sample is ignited in a horizontal position by a calibrated gas flame for 15 seconds. Burn length, time and speed are determined and sample is classified by the outcome. This is a small scale component test developed for automotive interior materials."
Underwriters Laboratories will tell you all you need to know about UL 94 flammability testing standards.
I'm working on a senior project where we are dampening the sound emissions from a hairdryer. We were looking at vibration reducing materials and we didnt really know what that meant, and we couldnt really find out what they meant, except for the UL rating.
not sure about FAR and DOT but about UL it is United laboratories for sure and UL-94 v-1 standard talks about flame retadancy of the product whch is for 45 seconds as it is rated as v-1. v-0 is equal to or less than 10 seconds
