what is the diffence btw sodium and mercury for energy saving

Assuming you mean LPS - low pressure sodium lamps compared to mercury vapour lamps, and also assuming that you are talking about street lighting (need to assume a lot of things as your question is crap poorly worded) then LPS is the most efficient for area/street lighting as its wavelength is most effective for the human eye.

Also mercury vapour lamps are facing future ban due to the Hg hazard as well as the UV.
