There are quite afew companys out there - particularly in UK, Canada, Germany, Dutch, etc. But all these companys are pursuing some very novel approaches which are less on the efficiency factor. When you approach them with some good ideas / concepts they shy away. They just want to pursue what they have initiated - the less efficient concepts.
I am an amateur researcher and have some really good concepts - scientifically sound - yet no one wants to discuss them even - reason - may be they are out to use public funds [LOOT] ON VISIBLY INEFFICIENT PROJECTS - which die off even before take off - during the prolonged trial stages itself. That's the reason we still don't have a single profitable efficient system working anywhere on earth.
I have :
1. A designed Sea/brackish water distillation with least energy input.
2. A concept for harnessing sea waves to extract the maximum energy available in the waves.
3. A 3D concept for the wind mill rotor blades - other than the aerodynamic design in vogue.

When it comes to Sustainability Engineering, i.e., renewable engineering, there is no such thing as "best". The field is brand new and "Sustainability Engineering is such a new field that few, if any Colleges and Universities are offering it as a degree. However, there are several which have selected courses for Sustainability Engineering, one being MIT's Open Courseware. If you click on this link, http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/Civil-and-Environmental-Engineering/index.htm, and look down the list of courses offered you will find at least two Sustainability courses for undergrads and several more for advance students. You can find a great deal about Renewable energy by going to the USA's Department of Energy, too, http://www.eere.energy.gov/. Also, NASA and the EPA are involved. In fact, even the Department of Agriculture has some info. Finally, here is what I have immediately available: http://chtank.org. Why don't you join the ranks of many concern citizens and become an entrepreneur? You can do the research and find your own innovations. In the mean time, I will continue to write my "Learn by Doing" Tutorial for Biodigestion, http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~chtank/biodigest-1.html.
