NCPF Certificates: What Does NCPF Mean?

01/14/2010 10:21 AM

I'm looking to find out what the NCPF stands for. Have looked everywhere online but with no luck whatsoever, so I was hoping someone here might offer an idea.

It's needed for a Diesel engine, 750HP that powers a fire extinguishing pump. I hope my English is good enough.

http://www.acronymfinder.com/NCPF.html

Does the equipment have any connection with the French language, perhaps?

To my best knowledge, it hasn't got anything to do with the Franch language.

The certificate is for the engine that is used in a highly flammable gas enviroment. I believe the NCPF certificate is issued for engines that are appropriate for such enviroments. Possibly on ships that transfer the highly flammable gas or perhaps places where the liquid gas is transferred to the ship.

I got the request for the engine from a pump factory and I assume that they need it to work in a high security enviroment.

I can't offer the right parts for the pump factory without fully understanding the matter.

Get back on to the organisation that requested it and ask what it means.

Unfortunately, they themselves do not know what it means. They asked me if I could tell them.

Boy, you aren't kidding about hard to find on the net!

It looks like the authority that would issue such a certificate is the U.S. Coast Guard... only direct reference I can find is a manufacturer:

http://www.deere.com/en_US/rg/infocenter/infoevents/pr/2009/powertech-hazloc.html

This is a John Deere press release, indicating engines that comply with USCG MSC Class 1, Div. 1, Group C and D requirements for operating in an explosive atmosphere.

I find no reference to your acronym NCPF... perhaps that is the certificate itself.

Hope this is of some help.

It sounds like you need a diesel engine certified for use in a hazardous area zone. This is a very specialised piece of equipment. Your best option is to contact diesel engine manufacturers that do these and ask them what a NCPF certificate is and if they have suitably certified engines.

https://www.offshore-mag.com/index/article-display/324163/articles/offshore/volume-68/issue-3/sweden-supplement/diesel-engines-suited-to-hazardous-area-operations.html

https://www.volvopenta.com/volvopenta/splash/en-gb/Pages/global_splash.aspx

Either that or get your customer to go back to their customer who spec-ed the original NCPF certificate request and ask for clarification (and possibly a previously used engine manufacturer reference). This is a good idea also as the NCPF could be for the engine itself or for the completed installation (or part thereof) which makes this even more vague.

Let us know what you find as I have never come across NCPF certification and cannot find any reference on the internet or hazardous area standards sites.

Are you sure it is not NFPA ?

They set the electrical standards for hazardous (flammable) location installations.
