01/21/2010 4:22 PM

Hi I have a problem now and again starting my Packard Bell laptop. sometimes the two green lights comes on and stays on with a beeping sound, unfortunately thats all that happens i don't even get the screen up. I then have to hold the power button down to shut it off. then sometimes it fires up and works for mabe days at a time. Can any body throw any light on this. Regards...Mike

My battery on my R4622 is completely shot, but I don't have a problem.

Well..it could be that a key or mouse button is sticking down with a constant beeping. Or it could be the beep code from the bios telling you something isn't working. This would be say "beep pause beep beep" or some other code to tell you whats not working. Some beeps will also tell you when somrthings starting correctly.

One thing I would be suspicious of is that there may be dust inside your machine. it needs to be blown out if there is, as dust will cause things such as memory modules to short out causing problems such as you describe. Also do a scan of your hard drive to make sure its not going bad and have you defragged it?

You can also do a web search for "Packard Bell Easynote R4622 beep codes"

Hi Thanks for the reply, Don't think its the mouse or stuck key because when its running there are no other probs with the computer. Believe it or not but it hasn't happened since I have posted the thread, the next time it does I will count the beeps and report back. Whats the best way to remove the dust, does it mean a complete strip down? Mike

The keyboard will have to be taken up and quite often that will give you all the access you need, if not there are usually screws on the bottom side which hold the top on. The keyboard usually snaps in place but you should be able to find disassembly info on the web. We don't have Packard Bells on this side of the pond anymore.

If you have to blow it out, remember to hold the fan blades with something so that they don't spin and cause damage to them.

Good to hear it is behaving itself ... that's the best cure. Good luck!

Randy

I can get my R4622's keyboard out just with 2 flat head screwdrivers, just stick it down the side, and lever.
By the way, to clean the majority of the lappy, you can just remove the panels on the bottom, these will give you access to the CPU, RAM, Wifi card and you can stick a pipe cleaner or something underneath to get the crap from other areas such as the chipset. Even better if you have some compressed air (don't think about using a lighter refill; which could turn out nasty).

Just for the record, the R4622 just has a piece of metal underneath, and nothing is accessible under, unless you take the whole top off which is a real bugger :P
I have taken mine apart countless times.
Good Luck,
Bondy
