Sudden Power Failures on Lift VVVF Control Drives

01/22/2010 6:23 AM

What would be the possible bad impacts could occur on micro processor based controlled VVVF lift drives/ Inverters due to sudden power failures while they are on operation.

Similary, If total power shuts down for the purpose of testing the stand by generator in the building weekly basis, any bad impact or degradtion could be occur to the elevator drive system while they are on operation.

If so how does happand these bad impacts to the components & operation of the elevator drives operating. please discribe......

Thanks.

Best Regards,

Provided that the lift controller and the drive have been designed correctly for lift duty then a sudden failure of the power supply or interruption of the safety circuit causing a stop from high speed should not damage the drive at all. If you use a standard industrial drive then it is possible to damage the output transistors in such conditions because the regenerated energy from the lift is not controlled in a correct way in the drive. Basically it over volts the DC link and power semiconductors in the drive.....

then, what about the freewheeling protecting diod in the rectifier circuit, which should carry the regenerative energy coming back from load(lift) and recyclating till it is absorbs as heat looses in the circuit elements till it diappeared totally.

Waiting for you kind reply pls
