Trace heating

Is 1/4" in tubing too thin for trace heating, in your experience?

Thank you.

  • Is the tubing being electrically trace-heated, in which case, what's in the tube?
  • Is the substance in the tube doing the trace heating, in which case,
    • what's in the tube?
    • what's its temperature?
    • what is it in contact with?
    • what's in what it is in contact with (freezing point, boiling point, that sort of thing)?
    • What is the size of the thing it is in contact with?
  • What are the ambient temperatures?
  • What are the insulation properties and thicknesses?

Yes, electrically trace heated. It is not currently trace heated. We were planning to, but someone suggested that 1/4" is too small for that. Anhydrous hydrogen fluoride, in one tube, and ammonia in another.

What are the ambient temperatures?

The ambient temperature would be between 20 °c and 30 °C.

What are the insulation properties and thicknesses?

I have not thought of that yet.

Try self-limiting trace heating tape.
