Difference Between Immersion and Submersion

02/01/2010 2:08 AM

Hello

I want some information regarding ingress protection provided by different enclosures. In the 'IPxyz' rating, 'y' indicates degree of protection provided against moisture. With reference to IEC 60529 y= 7 indicates protection against effects of immersion while y=8 indicates protection against submersion.

Can anyone tell me the difference between immersion and submersion?

Thank You.

I think that:

Immersion is from: immerse verb

Immersion

1. Sinking until covered completely with water

2. The act of wetting something by submerging it

synonym: emersion

Sinking

wetting

And: Submersion ?

Sub is used as prefix to show under as submarine, subsoil , 12 subscript in contrast to 12

superscript .

So sumersion seem to be not a correct word see above submerging

And it is not from mersion but from merge I think.

Submesion is no word in dictionary.

Haajee - what the blazes are you going on about ?

(Apart from this post) your post is the only place in CR4 that "sumersion" is mentioned.

And as for submersion ...
