Turbocharger Leaks Oil

02/02/2010 9:26 PM

We are commissioning a gas engine run on producer gas generatd in a woody biomass gasifier. It was seen that engine oil is accumulated in the intercooler. There was no oil before the turbo-charger. This unit has been operated only for less than 100 hours. How enver, we have replaced the sealing rings as well in the turbo charger but still the problem is not solved.

We also have faced many problems of hadling this system. The capacity of the engine is 150 kWe. Following problems were encountered.

1. Difficulty in adjusting air/fuel mixture

2. Back firing of engine when loaded above 90 kWe (This is changing)

3. Frequent blocking of flame arresrters even though gasses have passed scrubber, dryer, saw dust filter and paper filter.

4. Water coming in to the engine through the gas line.

If anayone has experience of operating engines with producer gas please comment.

Thanks,

Jagath.

Are you sure it is engine oil and not some condensate?

Perhaps you need to cool the producer gas right down and collect (remove) the condensate, then reheat to prevent further condensation.
