how can i increase the life of punchthe ?

can it is recomanded to increase temp. of flat?

Better steel for punch. Heating the steel in air will likely create oxides which will increase abrasion on the punch. You really need to consider the grade of steel and its hardness ductility and microstructure. And the failure mode of the punch currently. milo

To answer this question you need to know the flow stress of the steel at the current and proposed temperature. That means you have to identify the steel, then do a literature search or else "warm" tensile testing. In my experience, unless you are talking about one of the new high strength or ultra highstrength automotive steels, the answer is no. Also, beware of blue brittlenes temperature range of around 600 degrees F. milo
