There are a lot of defect that could lead to failure of devices. Because the winding is progresive lap could not have lead to the failure of the motor. Problems of DC motors could be any of the following:
Brush contact problem.
Shorted commutator bar.
Burnt armature coil.
Drive / controller problem
Spark over on commutator bar
Field coils and interpoles
Carbon dust and dirts on commutators and field poles.
If the winding is new or rewound, check ur commutator bars for shorts. this is done by removing all the armature wires from the commutator. The papering on the armature slot should also be checked for any opening perticulaly at the extreems of the slot that could allow the armature wires to contact the earth body of the armature.
Take care

Thanks for your input, however armature is failing in testing at test bed in assembled motor condition, after giving @ 50 to 70 voltage, another observation on one side motor taking complete speed however in other side armature is taking high current, armature & field voltage is 110 volts. Commutator showing dark black brush running marks on commutator surface. Armature are new fresh wound.
